THE ARRAN MALT
After initial maturation over a number of years in traditional oak barrels, this whisky from the Isle of Arran is transferred to Amarone casks where it takes on the rich and complex flavours of this iconic Italian red wine.
Displaying the sweet-fruity characteristics of a classic Arran malt, with added depth of fruit and oak from the Amarone casks, this is an incredibly satisfying dram, with a rich brooding character full of complexity and quality.
This unique whisky is crafted at Arran’s Lochranza distillery with a blend of Scottish-grown malted barley, and fresh water from nearby Loch na Davie, reputedly the source of the purest water in Scotland.
Once the malts have been fermented with yeast, the ‘wash’ is then double distilled in copper pot stills, before being laid down to mature for around eight years in ex-Bourbon barrels. After time they are transferred to ‘finish’ in Amarone wine casks selected by Arran’s Master Distiller James McTaggart, sourced from a respected artisan producer in the Veneto region of Italy.
Isle of Arran Distillers bottle this single malt at 50% abv, and to present the whisky in its unadulterated, purest form, and retain its full flavour, choose to not chill filter.
Scottish-grown malted barley, yeast, Loch na Davie water, matured in ex-Bourbon and finished in ex-Amarone wine casks.
With its rich copper colour and deep notes of dark chocolate, red fruits and honey, this is a decidedly suave sipper. The intense complex notes of this single malt are best enjoyed neat.
