BOUKMAN RHUM
This traditional Haitian style of rum, clairin trempè, infuses fresh cane juice rhum with local barks, citrus peel and other botanicals, resulting in an all-natural dry, complex and highly versatile spirit that celebrates Haiti’s rich terroir and rhum-producing heritage.
Once the largest sugar colony in the Caribbean, Haiti has a rich history of sugar cane juice distillation, with 500 artisan distilleries still operating today, in contrast with fewer than 50 in the rest of the Caribbean. The country’s rich soil and relatively dry climate both contribute towards the high sugar content of local cane varieties.
Boukman is made from rhum distilled at two distilleries – one in Haiti’s northern Cap Haïtien region and the other in Croix-des-Bouquets in the south. Sugar cane juice is fermented and then distilled using steam-powered column stills, to about 75% ABV.
These rhums are blended in Port-au-Prince. Each of the seven botanicals are then macerated separately in this spirit before being blended, chill filtered and bottled, with no sugar added.
Haitian clairin from fresh cane juice, native woods and barks, bitter orange peel, allspice, clove, vanilla, bitter almond, cinnamon.
Ideal on the rocks with nothing more than an orange twist, Boukman is also a versatile cocktail ingredient in everything from stirred-down classics to long, fresh cocktails. A perfect match with tonic, coconut water, citrus and much more.
