Martin Millers 9 Moons

MARTIN MILLER’S 9 MOONS

After a group of curious New York bartenders took it upon themselves to experiment with some barrels and Martin Miller’s original, one of the brand’s founders acquired a selection of barrels for himself and set about creating a perfectly rested gin.

The cask ageing process – which takes place in Iceland where Martin Miller’s sources the water used to dilute it – respects the original gin, shining a light on various aspects of the spirit and amplifying its botanicals.

PRODUCTION

Martin Miller’s Gin spends at least nine months, or moons, in French oak using a Solera Vat system that allows not only for a balanced introduction of oak flavours, but also consistent quality. The new moon cycle governs when the barrels are blended each season.

While 9 Moons is made with the same 10 botanicals as the original, its time in oak brings some of these to the fore. Iceland’s climate, meanwhile, plays an important part in the process, allowing the gin to spend more time in contact with the oak without overpowering it.

The original 9 Moons, launched in 2016, made use of single American oak barrels. The new 9 Moons Solera Vat, introduced in 2019, maintains the original’s DNA while addressing the limitations of the original process.
